What Customers Say About The Story About Ping:

This one doesn't do the trick at our house. We really don't care that much about the travails of this duck. Attention spans are short; go with a winner instead.

I am SO happy to see this book still (or back). in print. I loved this gentle fable of the little duck who runs away to avoid getting a spank on his back (for being the last aboard the boat which is his home at night), only to learn the hard way that getting lost, and the consequent loneliness, is worse; and that facing up to one's misdeeds is worthwhile.Everyone in our family loved this little book when we were kids, and we are very happy to see it still available. :)

This is one of the all time great books and a strong life lesson. Every child should be read this book and every collection shgould house this story.

It needs to go. Also the illustrations are stereotypical caricatures of Asian people - not cool at all if you ask me.

I HATE this book and can't understand how it got so many 5 star reviews. I was so disappointed to see this book showcased on the Amazon homepage today.

Ever. This book is about cruelty to animals, conformity, and giving in to abuse.

There is not a single positive message anywhere in this book and I will not be sharing it with my children. I don't care if this book is a classic.

There are so many positive, creative, wonderful books out there with great messages for kids - why read this one.

On the Li I saw people fishing with cormorants and using boats similar to those depicted in the book's simple but beautiful illustrations. THE STORY ABOUT PING also left a lasting impression on me. For those who are appalled by what they see as "abuse", the swat on the back was to make sure the ducks returned quickly to the boat when called so that they wouldn't end up in someone's soup. It was one of my favorite childhood books and I loved reading it to my children and grandsons who still enjoy it. Memories of the book motivated me to make two trips as an adult to China where I sailed on the Yangtze and Li Rivers. I got the point as a child. So did my children and grandchildren and no one was traumatized.
